Trio Steals Merchandise With Security Tags Still On, Caught During LI Traffic Stop: Police

Three men face charges after they were caught with stolen merchandise during a traffic stop on Long Island, police said.

The incident happened on Monday, March 20 around 8:30 p.m. when police in East Garden City saw a grey 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee with three men inside commit a traffic infraction while traveling north on Ring Road West, according to Nassau County Police. 

Officers then pulled the Jeep over and allegedly found numerous items of merchandise inside the vehicle that still had tags and security features attached. 

After an investigation, the three men, who are all from Venezuela, were arrested without incident. They are identified as:

  • Jan Carlos Eduardo Narvaez Rangel, age 30;
  • Brianny Gerardo Guevara Fernandez, age 26; 
  • Jario Joel Palacios Mederico, age 19.

All three suspects are charged with the following: 

  • Fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property;
  • Third-degree grand larceny; 
  • Possession of burglar's tools. 

Additionally, Rangel is also charged with second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, police said. 

The three men were arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Tuesday, March 21.
